winter nights

the distant howl of a wolf
moves air to caress my hands and
plant blue half moons
on my nails
tonight the stars have chosen to
pour themselves deeper into
night’s shell
trees nodding along with the wind
sweeps the heavy from my eyes
losing leaves to the weight
of insomnia
street lights glow in
brilliant yellow asterisks
brimming the cracks in my glasses
